Bittersweet

In exactly 2 weeks Beckie and the kids will be leaving these beautiful islands. In 2 weeks and 2 days I will be doing the same. It is hard to believe that it will have been 364 days since we first landed here. It is very hard to explain and begin to process much of what has happened here for us and in us. Much of what we held dear before we came, we still hold dear... being with the poor, those on the margins of society. It also seems that some of our genetics have been reactivated... concern for the world's poor.

We have made many good friends here. With the staff and students of Mercy In Action, and with those at Vineyard Manila. It will be hard to leave them... bitter.

At the same time, it will be good to be reunited with friends and family we have not seen in a year or more. It will be good to see them.... sweet.

So, right now we are in a season of packing, cleaning, getting ready to say goodbye, planning for the future, evaluating the past, saying goodbye, and having parties!

I can imagine how hard it must be to be getting ready to leave. The experience seems quite vibrant from what we've read here. Still, Liv and I are very excited about your return to our crazy city of Winnipeg. Gleeful in fact. Parties? Indeed, there be some celebration going on around here for a while after your arrival.

Hey guys! Wanted to tell you that we're looking forward to your return too. Went to the Vineyard on Easter with Rachel's parents (and her brother!!!). Loved it. Andy, enjoy Napal. Sounds amazing! Travelling mercies to all.

it is really difficult to pour your heart into a place, a people and then leave. you're leaving part of yourselves! God bless your hearts and seal the work you've done there in the time you were given.

i potted a bunch of rooting slips today (outside :)!)and thought of you, Andy, and the outdoor bath you give all your plants in the spring. i've got some nice bamboo for you when you come back.

ha ha I LOVE asher's quote there. I hope you had a cool send off party - what was the theme? May you have a flight that feels very short - that would be a REAL miracle.
